It’s Not Just Funny, It’s Historical!

So this is day seven of my Alternate Day Fasting (ADF) journey and after six full days, three fasting and three non-fasting, I can report a net net result of six pounds lost. So a pound a day, not too shabby.

As I previously posted, one of the interesting aspects of my ADF journey is that is has seriously piqued my interest in food content: professionally produced food shows, YouTube food videos, books, and, today especially, food blogs. Now, I am not a cook, at least not on any consistent basis, so I am not generally interested in recipes and cooking techniques which rules out about 99.9% of food blogs. What I am interested in, however, is food history! I love knowing how people have prepared, served, sold, and consumed food throughout the course of history (in particular the medieval and renaissance periods).

So yes, it seems bizarre even to me that on a day when I don’t let myself consume anything more interesting than a cup of plain Earl Grey, I can thoroughly enjoy a blog post from, say, Cooking in the Archives (highly recommend) on how to recreate a 17th century gingerbread recipe. Perhaps one day this obsession will lead to my actually trying to cook some of these antiquated recipes on my own but for now I remain a fasting voyeur of all things historically culinary.
